My Week in Italy

Hello everyone,

A week ago I spent 5 days in Northern Italy. The purpose of the trip was to visit my family's home town, visit their graves and meet the living ones and a little bit of sight seeing.
My mum and my step dad were over in Europe from Australia for a month so I went with them and Little L.

It has been over a year since I have actually been on a holiday, which is a crazy amount of time for me and I was so excited. I've always wanted to go to Italy, it has always been a long life dream because its my heritage and I have studied the language and culture for 13 years.

San Giacomo in Paderno Del Grappa

We arrived at Venice Marco Polo airport in the morning and took a hire car north towards Parderno. My step dad was nervous because he had to drive on the other side of the car on the other side of the road for the first time but we eventually made it to the hotel thanks to having a GPS (saved us from getting lost a million times)

The hotel is the only one in Paderno which is a very small rural alpine town where my mum and her family grew up until they emigrated to Australia after her dad died. We went straight to the cemetery and found my mums fathers grave, her grandparents and her aunty and uncle. We discovered her family home was only a few doors down from the hotel and the people who lived across the road remembered my mum when she was a child and told her stories from her childhood. It was nice to see my mum finally have closure on a chapter in her life that had caused her so much grief and confusion and for me to see it all.

View from Ponte degli Alpini

The next day we headed to Bassano del Grappa, a bigger town near Paderno which is famous for Ponte degli Alpini (Bridge of the alpini) It's a beautiful town at the edge of the Alps and we spent the morning wandering some of the streets and shops before stopping to have a coffee and I bought a whole box of crostoli (deep fried biscuit)
We got lost on the way back to the hotel and ended up having lunch on a mountain in a beautiful restaurant. I have guinea fowl with pomegranate and spinach. I vowed to myself  that this holiday I would be open to trying new food as I have previously being a vegan for 6 years and have only just introduced chicken, fish and eggs into my diet. It was very tasty!

Ponte Degli Alpini

We went to visit my cousins and my great aunty at their home in Cavaso. It was really lovely to meet family for the first time and you can just see similarities even if you've never met. Genetics is awesome :)

My bis Zia, mum and Little L

The day we went to Venice was a very miserable day. It was pouring with rain and I got absolutely drenched and I was cold and grumpy! I won't go into details but my mum insisted we walking the pouring rain to Saint Mark's Square to get lunch and she kept getting us lost. We did eventually make it there after several arguments! We went and got pizza just behind the square. They aren't wrong, it is expensive to eat here but tasty enough and the waiter was very charismatic.

A canal in Venice

San Marco Basilica and San Marco Square flooded

Saint Mark's square was flooded and all the shops were closed but we did get to go in a have a look inside Saint Marks Basilica, you weren't allowed to take photos but inside was just magnificent. Beautiful icon paintings, mosaics and lots of gold! I studied religious art in highschool and this was definitely up my alley.

No-one on gondolas today

We decided to give up and go home in the early afternoon as it was just getting worse and starting to hail. I would love to come back by myself and do it at my own pace.

Covered in snow!

Treviso Canal

The last day we went to Treviso to wander around before heading to the airport. Treviso is described as the
poor mans Venice because it too has the canals but because Venice is not so far away everyone just prefers to go there. It was still a lovely place to visit.

Interesting statue in old town of Treviso

Italy is a beautiful place with very vast scenery, amazing food and very friendly and helpful people. I hope  I get the chance to visit again in the very near future. Little L had a great time too being adorable and getting free sweets from people constantly!

Anyone being to, or want to go to Italy?

Soulmatefood 3 day juice cleanse

As I told you all previously I had started doing the 3 day juice detox by Soulmatefood. The aim was to drink 6 juices a day for 3 days and the result would be you having more energy, lose a bit of weight and start with a healthy mindset to continue eating better.

First day :: I was quite enthusiastic and didn't feel hungry and the juices were fine. By the end of the day I was sick of how sweet the juices were and how they didn't taste fresh.

Second day :: No hunger until I had KFC waved in my face! My willpower was strong and I continued. I started to feel like if I was doing any harm to my body, feeding it all this fruit sugar. My mouth felt furry and all the juices started to taste like the same goop. I have a very bad headache that night.

Third day :: I had lots of energy but was quite depressed. I got to the 4th juice and decided I would eat and had dinner of chicken and potato salad. I felt guilty for eating because I didn't complete the 3 days and I was quite hard on myself.

I think I learned overall that I still have issues with food. Even though it was short lived, I did become more aware of my body and when to eat. This weekend I realised I eat more out of boredom then hunger and everytime my brain told me to eat I had to go get water instead, so it wasn't all bad. As for weight, I felt lighter, less bloated, I had dropped about 3kgs (of water weight) my skin was better and I did have more energy. I usually have green juice every morning so  I will continue with that just need to pay more attention to portions and when I am actually hungry.

Not sure if I would recommend anyone to do this. It's quite expensive for what basically is just Innocent Smoothies. They don't taste fresh and they are all sweet. I think just stick to healthy eating and exercise. It has always been the method that works.

Anyone else do this cleanse or struggle with healthy eating let me know :)

Wednesday's Wishlist

Hello everyone!

I love reading peoples wishlists and I make tonnes of my own all the time so I will try and keep up with my weekly tradition I tried to start last year with making a wishlist every Wednesday ( I have enough to make one everyday but I must control myself)

I've been waiting a new brush to apply my foundation with as I've been using a Real Techniques stippling brush which has been amazing, but I wanted to try something new.

I need some wellies! After my holiday in Italy enduring snow and lots of soggy socks I think I should get a pair!

I love everything cat and this dress from Topshop is calling me.

I don't have enough blush. I've been using my Benefit Hervana one for months just because its so beautiful but latey I've craving something else. I chose the Sugarlicious box set because I would love to try the tints. I already have Moon Beam and use it everyday.

As a massive fan of Dior I have to try everything of theirs and I haven't found a BB cream that I like. I tested the Dior Nude BB cream in No2 today and it was a good match for colour and creamy. I'm going to go back and give it more of a go before I buy it though to make sure its perfect.

I have other things on my wishlist but they are more like refills. I have to be focused otherwise I just spend money and then wonder where it all went?

Anyone else have a wishlist or got anything on my wishlist and love it?

New Year, New Beginnings

Hello everyone!

I have been absent from writing in this blog for over half a year due to my personal life going to shit. I don't want to talk about it in my blog because I'm still very sensitive about it, but I thought  I would take the opportunity of the new year to start fresh which is why I've decided to take advantage of a Groupon deal for a 3 day juice cleanse from Soulmatefood

I already started drinking some, I couldn't help myself!

Soulmatefood is a diet delivery service that focuses on fresh, all natural, healthy and personalised meals to help you achieve your goals easily. They offer different types of diet plans whether it be weight loss or weight gain, including the juice cleanse that I am doing.

The juice cleanse is for 3 days and contains 6 different types of juices that you drink every 2 hours plus 6 glasses of water in-between  The juices are around 200 calories per juice and they are all whole fruit and vegetables so no missing out on important fibres, nutrients and vitamins.

The menu is as follows:
Juice 1 - Carrot, Orange, Ginger & Superfoods
Juice 2 - Pineapple, Banana & Coconut
Juice 3 - Anioxident Blend, Cherries &Mixed Berries
Juice 4 - Raspberry and Pomegranite
Juice 5 - Orange, Mango, Passionfruit & Goji Berry
Juice 6 - Strawberry & Banana

So far the juices have been tasty and filling, quite surprisingly. I will update and let you know how I get on!
